PAENIU OUT, IONATANA IN, IONATANA OUT, PAENIU IN
Vancouver, B.C. (16 April 1999)--- It appears that Bikenibeu Paeniu, who was ousted as Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Tuesday by a vote of no confidence, is now heading the caretaker government.
According to reliable sources in Tuvalu and New Zealand, parliament has given him the post until a vote among members of the house can be conducted within the next few days. Sources indicate that long-time Funafuti member Ionatana Ionatana was caretaker for a very brief period until the house agreed to allow Paeniu the task.
Meanwhile, the nation's Governor General, Tomasi Puapua, is out of the country on a business trip in American Samoa. This has added to the confusion, as installation of the next head of government in cannot take place without his presence.
The same sources have indicated that the Parliamentarians voted no confidence against Paeniu due to the failure of promised revenues from both the famous Internet TV deal and a passport selling scheme, and the alleged sexual preferences of Mr. Paeniu.
