TUVALU EARNS US$ 1.28 MILLION FROM TAIWAN FISHING LICENSES
FUNAFUTI, Tuvalu (November 18, 1999 Radio Australia)---The Tuvalu government has received approximately AUS$ 2 million (US$ 1.28 million) so far this year from Taiwanese fishing companies in return for granting territorial fishing rights.
The Funafuti government says it is expects to earn even higher revenues next year from Taiwan.
The fishing companies pay license fees for vessels operating in Tuvalu waters under a longline fishing agreement. They also pay for ships utilizing purse seine nets.
