A new book, "Historical Dictionary of Polynesia, 2nd edition", has been published and will provide better understanding for international educators and scholars about the islands of Polynesia.

Author Professor Robert Craig taught history at Brigham Young University-Hawaii for 14 years and his interest comes from his teaching and travels to island nations for more than 30 years.

Dr Craig's first edition of "Historical Dictionary of Polynesia" was published by Scarecrow Press in 1993.

The 400-page second edition covers American Samoa, the Cook Islands, Easter Island, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Pitcairn, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Wallis and Futuna.

Scarecrow Press has also printed a reference book, similar to Dr Craig's, but focusing on other Pacific areas such as Micronesia and Melanesia.

The Historical Dictionary series is an established one and Scarecrow Press has published volumes for all areas of the world, said Dr Craig.
