Tuvalu Online -- 13 Oct 2004
Maatia Toafa has been elected Prime Minister of Tuvalu, according to reports from Tuvalu.
Mr. Toafa was the deputy Prime Minister under the former leader, Saufatu Sopoanga. He won the vote on Monday, October 11, and was sworn in as Prime Minister immediately.
Mr. Sopoanga recently won the by-election on Nukufetau, after having earlier resigned as Prime Minister. He did not seek re-election for Prime Minister, but did support Mr. Toafa.
