Tuvalu's and Kiribati's national day fell today Monday August 15 at the World cExposition 2005 in Aichi, Japan.

The day started with the national anthem sung by our performance team, together with primary school students from our sister city, Chita. It continued on with fatele and siva from both teams as well. This proved to be very entertaining and the travelling dancing troupe received a lot of praise from the audience after their peformance.

The minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Industries Bikenibeu Paeniu together with Kiribati's minister for communication, transport and tourism Natan Teewe were made guests of honour during the entire day.

Paeniu delivered a speech during the ceremony where he thanked the organisers of this year's Expo in Japan, for allowing Tuvalu to be part of this excitement.Vice Commissioner General of the 2005 World Expo His Excellency Yasuyoshi Ichihashi, in his speech stated that he hopes this world Expo and Tuvalu's involvement in it will strengthen the friendship between Tuvalu and Japan.

After the cultural performance the guests were taken on a salon bus to a luncheon before a tour of the Japanese, Pacific Island and the African pavillions.
