Pacific builder nabs award with Tuvalu building

A TOWNSVILLE construction company that built new government offices for the
Pacific nation of Tuvalu is the winner of the 2005 Townsville Regional Export
Northern Project Management (NPM), also winner of the awards' services category,
was announced as regional exporter of the year at a ceremony in Townsville last
NPM employs 440 people, most of whom are involved in exporting services to New
Caledonia, Fiji and Tuvalu.
The company provided project management for the government office project at
Tuvalu and for the Sofitel Resort and Spa at Fiji which is under construction.
Parliamentary secretary to the Premier in North Queensland Lindy Nelson-Carr
told the awards ceremony Queensland's exports increased 30 per cent in 2004-05
to $26.2 billion.
Goods exported to the biggest market of Japan increased 40 per cent or $2.1
Exports of goods to South Korea and the United Kingdom were each up 41 per cent
to $896 million and $250 million respectively.
The largest growing market was India with an increase of almost 70 per cent or
The major export growth was in coal.
Ms Nelson-Carr said Queensland's trade performance for the month of July
compared with the same month last year rose by $865 million.
