In Tuvalu, a Funafuti MP Kamuta Latasi has been told that his seat in
parliament is now vacant.
The vacancy has been made under constitutional rules which allow an MP to miss
five days in two consecutive parliamentary sessions.
Prime Minister Maatia Toafa has told Tuvalu News that Mr Latasi was and is still
away in New Zealand on medical treatment, but did not excuse himself from his
parliamentary responsibilities through the Speaker.
The Speaker has not indicated when the by-election will be held.
