Election Candidates Announced

The candidates for the upcoming national election in Tuvalu, to be held on August 3, have been announced.

According to Radio Tuvalu, and other local correspondences, 32 candidates are running for the 15 seats in parliament.

The following lists the islands, number of available seats, and the candidates that are running. (c) indicates current parliament members.

Nanumaga (2)
Otinielu Tausi (c), Falesa Pitoi, Halo Tuavai (c)

Nanumea (2)
Annie Homasi, Kokea Malua (c), Lagitupu Tuilimu, Maatia Toafa (c), Uili Telavi

Niutao (2)
Tomu Sione, Iopu Iupasi, Samuelu P Teo (c), Tavau Teii (c)

Nui (2)

Taom Tanukale (c), Pakai Asaia, Italeli Iakoba, Seluka Seluka

Nukufetau (2)
Elisala Pita (c), Lotoala Metia, Saufatu Sopoaga (c)

Nukulaelae (1)
Luke Paeniu, Bikenibeu Paeniu (c), Iefata Paeniu, Namoliki Sualiki.

Vaitupu (2)
Taukelina Finikaso, Apisai Ielemia (c), Matanilee Iosefa, Eti Esela, Leti Pelesala (c)

Dr Alesana Kleis Seluka, the other current sitting member from Nui, is the only incumbent not seeking re-election.
