NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Jan. 4 -/E-Wire/-- Canadian Environmental Minister Rona Ambrose has reneged on that countries international commitment under the Kyoto Protocol. The decision comes as a surprise to most Canadians and the world community at large. Most of all it comes as a shock to the 166 signatory nations to the protocol. In addition Canada has cancelled a $5 million pledge to help least developed countries adapt to the impacts of climate change. The Permanent Secretary of Tuvalu, Enele Sopoago says "It's a slap in the face of the people of the small island states and Inuit people of the North." Enele Sopoago has cause to be concerned because his small island state in the South Pacific is flooding, supposedly, because of rising sea levels. The small Islands have been the subject of much documentary attention showing how the sea is taking over.

Over the years the sea has claimed more and more of his precious island state. These Islands has been repeatedly used as a typical example of what will happen with Global Warming and the resultant rising sea levels. From the very beginning of the Global Warming scare this Island has been portrayed as atypical of the result of Global Warming. The small Islands are just that, tiny atolls perched precariously on top of geological faults that respond to the earth's expansion process. This process is insidious and ongoing and creates topographical slumps, on land as well as under the sea. These slumps are voids created by the tensional stresses in the earth's surface. This expansion process and the resultant slumping occur globally.

It could be that Tuvalu just happens to be located over a fracture zone in the Pacific that is slumping. The Islands are located in the zone where the Pacific and the Philippine plates meet. It is an active location and the Islands are, quite likely, sinking because of on going expansion. Are the residents of Tuvalu aware of this anomaly? Have they looked at the geological conditions? Have they been informed that such a possibility exists? Does Canada know this, and if so, what else does Canada know why it has reneged? For that matter what does the United States know why they have refused to sign? What is it that Australia knows why they will not sign the protocol?

Does it not seem strange that the countries that produce the most greenhouse gasses treat the protocol with such scant regard? Canada was one of the champions of the 1997 protocol at the UN framework convention on climate change. What then could have influenced their sudden about turn? Well the times they are changing and new information is flowing at a faster rate than any time in history. More and more facts are being unearthed at a faster and more dramatic rate than ever before. All these developed nations have access to extensive research resources and they all have advisers on such an important policy matter as global warming.

An international symposium on "New Concepts in Global Tectonics" was recently held in Tsukuba Science City, Japan. The presentation by N. Christian Smooth (formerly with the US Navy) not only made a lot of sense but it exposed how vested interests cloud and shroud issues in the light of known facts. Plate tectonic proponents refused to accept new information when offered. Frank Merchant said "You would have thought that they were in a catfight. Everyone was trying to outdo and point the finger at everyone else. They could see that some of the tectonic theories were already wrong and each was trying to defend his portion of the same in face of overwhelming data against all of them."

This stubborn attitude of defending dubious concepts is what we are talking about in the fossil fuel debate. The proponents link global warming to the burning of fossil fuels. They stubbornly defend their views in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The most interesting aspect of the symposium as far as global warming is concerned is the presentation by Bruce A Leybourne of the US Navy. He went on to show that the three major global sea level pressure systems are influenced by gravity, Seismology and geology. These three major forces acting in accord influence and trigger climatic change. His presentation can be read on the Internet under "New concepts in global Tectonics." Geology, he showed, played a major part in influencing weather patterns. For example it has been observed in the tropics that earthquakes are frequently accompanied by torrential rains and severe thunderstorms.

Geological activity has a lot to do with weather patterns. This area is now being studied and has yielded a lot of information about El Nino. Seismology and undersea volcanic activity is a known El Nino precursor. All these new findings add doubt that changing weather patterns are caused by the burning of fossil fuels. The fossil fuel proponents have always had their fair share of skeptics. One US Senator has even called Global Warming a Hoax. Now with mounting evidence Canada's withdrawal may be the beginning of the end of the Kyoto Protocol.

The fact is that sea levels are constantly in recession and there is no way that melting icecaps will make them rise again. The rate of recession will always stay ahead of any gain from melting icecaps. The Islands in the Tuvalu chain can survive if the seas recede and give them more land. They will certainly keep sinking if the geological fracture zone keeps stretching. The answer to this dilemma will only be known over time.

Naturally the government has to have a contingency plan for survival. But any future appeals for assistance cannot be based on Global Warming and rising sea levels. There has to be solid evidence based on solid research. This also takes time and they may not have enough time.

The Earth is getting hotter: that is a fact. The current hype blaming fossil fuels for the increasing heat is perhaps the hoax. Until the grey areas of the debate are more clearly defined I forecast that there will be more defections from the Kyoto Protocol. What seems to be the gray area is the source of the increased heat. What is significant is that geology plays a very important part in Global Warming. What is also important is that geology is playing a very significant role in the fate of the State of Tuvalu.

The earth has been deceiving us for a very long time. The greatest deception on the face of our earth is sea level datum and this is where the Tuvalu situation comes sharply into focus. Sea levels have been receding for millions of years and will not rise again as long as the earth continues to expand. Sea levels will not rise one millimeter, when and if, all the ice caps melt.

Sea level datum is a myth. It is an indeterminate factor. It is a variable. It behaves and responds to several terrestrial geological variations and fluctuations as well as lunar cycles. What is sea level? It certainly is not a datum. Is sea level rising as a result of global warming? No it is not. Is sea level rising because of melting Ice caps? No it is not. Is sea level rising? No it is not. Sea level is receding and has been doing so for a very long time. So why is the sea making inroad in Tuvalu? It is the same slumping phenomenon that is sinking the city of New Orleans and the Louisiana coast.

So let us try to make sense of the whole debate. Our Planet earth is expanding and as it expands sea levels fall. That single fact cannot be questioned for history is there to support the hypothesis. The history of civilization is the history of receding seas. All civilizations followed sea level downward from high places around the world. We can all look back into history and historical places and determine that fact. Darwin, for instance circa 1832 was fascinated by what he called "raised beaches". He documented this anomaly all over the Pacific Islands and South America. It did not occur to him that the opposite could have been the case.i.e that sea levels fell. Today the sea is still receding and that will not change.

The tiny island state of Tuvalu is sinking: the sea level is not rising and will not rise as long as the earth continues to expand. The earth will continue to expand to twice its current size. It has expanded from a planet the size of the moon and it will keep expanding. The cause of the earth's expansion is heat, its own internal heat. That heat is increasing and heating up the oceans. It is causing increased geological activity in the form of earthquakes and volcanoes and of course the resultant expansion which in turn causes seas to recede.

The cause of Global Warming is the Globe, our planet earth. It's getting hotter. It is heating up the ocean, it is speeding up the ocean currents, it is increasing the salinity of the oceans and it is changing our climate. It is also exposing more and more land on an ongoing basis and the ratio of, land to ocean; coverage of our planet is slowly changing. As more and more land is exposed more and more heat is radiated from the land. The earth's heat is also radiated under the oceans and that is what drives the convection currents. That increasing body heat is what is speeding up the ocean currents.

So Tuvalu is sinking into the Pacific and they are blaming the developed countries for the dilemma. I blame the developed countries for not telling Tuvalu the truth. Could it be that they are all lip locked in the same conspiracy. Low lying countries have nothing to fear from rising seas even if all the ice caps melt. The sea will continue to recede as the land mass increases. The melting ice caps will make no difference to sea levels for the recession will far outstrip any ice cap runoff. The fear of rising seas is what made all the small nations and particularly low lying ones rush to sign the Kyoto Protocol. That fear must be maintained to keep the members in the Protocol. Remove that fear and all the member nations will defect on by one. The recession, like the seas, has already started; it is just a matter of time. Tuvalu, I forecast, will outlive the Kyoto Protocol.
