Outbound Airmail Service from Tuvalu Disrupted
March 30, 2010
Outbound Airmail Service from Tuvalu came to a halt at the end of February, due to the termination of the contract between the Government of Tuvalu and Air Pacific, the only airline servicing Tuvalu.
Both parties are attempting to finalize a new agreement on taking outward mails from Tuvalu.
Air Pacific continues bringing in inward mail with no disruption, inward and outward mail are covered on separate agreements.
The biggest impact is being felt by the Tuvalu Philatelic Bureau, which sell stamps to collectors around the world. Orders for several recent stamp issues have been processed and packed, but they are stored at the General Post Office on Funafuti waiting for the approval of the agreement.
