Birds: 1988  to 1992

Birds was the subject chosen for the fifth definitive set released by Tuvalu. Jennifer Toombs produced extremely attractive designs for each value, illustrating close-ups of bird's heads on a pastel background. The lowest value issued was 5c, as Tuvalu dropped the traditional 1c to 4c issues due to little use and printing expenses. There were no distinguishable reprints produced for this issue. The complete set was overprinted "Official" for government use, and four values were overprinted for Singpex in 1994. In 1999, four more values were released with an overprint in support of the refugees of Kosovo.

  • Specimen overprints exist for all values.
  • Warning: Large quantities of all values, perforated and imperforate, and some with missing colours, came on to the market after the liquidation of the former philatelic advisors in 1988. They are printers waste and/or intentially produced "errors". None were ever sent to Tuvalu. They are often offered at inflated prices.
